Parkinson's

In the RGM lessons for people with Parkinson's disease, extra attention is paid to making large movements, body balance, walking and performing dual tasks. RGM has a positive influence on various problem areas. A pilot study in Sweden has shown improvements in:

  • cognitive functions: memory and concentration are improved

  • balance: this makes one less likely to fall

  • speech: one becomes better understood

  • performing double tasks

  • general well-being

Most RGM participants with Parkinson's like to move to music, following the structure of the exercises. It gives a sense of satisfaction when this works out well. It is also clearly noticeable that the brain is greatly activated. RGM stimulates the production of dopamine, the neurotransmitter that plays an important role in the regulation of motor skills (for example, starting and stopping) and has a major influence on mood. Add to this the fun people experience together and you have a great addition to the existing treatment of Parkinson's disease.
